Sunday Walks

The Big Lemon runs walks in the Sussex countryside between January and September. We generally take the bus out into the countryside, walk at a leisurely pace for about 3-4 hours taking in the scenery and finishing for lunch at a nice old country pub.

Most walks are between 6-10 miles long and are aimed to provide good exercise in beautiful country surroundings without being too strenuous, though some walks are quite hilly. They are suitable for all ages from about 6 onwards, though younger ones are also welcome if you don’t mind carrying them part of the way!

All buses leave Old Steine (South) Stop S, Brighton at 10.30am and return about 4.30 – 5pm.

Walks for 2018

January Detox Sunday Walk – 14th January 2018

Patcham to Clayton via The Chattri, Jack & Jill and Wolstonbury Hill

Come and blow away those January blues on the first Big Lemon Sunday Walk of 2018.

Starting just to the north of Patcham, the walk climbs up Scare Hill to the Chattri, a memorial to all Indian soldiers who died in the First World War. Following the Sussex Border Path, we reach the Jack and Jill windmills and then descend into the village of Clayton. Climbing up again we reach the ancient site of Wolstonbury Hill, an old Iron Age hill fort and after exploring this area,we will decend to the Jack & Jill Inn, which sits above the entrance to Clayton Tunnel

Our full programme of delightful walks will be announced in January 2018.

    1. Hi Anna

Thanks for this! Sadly the October walk was our last one for the season but we’ll be running them next year too! April – October, we’ll post the program up on this page in the new year 🙂

Hi! Do I need to book a Sunday walk or just turn up? As I live over in Worthing there may be some Sundays when it is ‘spur of the moment’ but don’t want to go all that way to find I can’t join cos full up! Looking forward to trying some of the walks this year.

We’ve saved the date i.e April 2nd any idea where the walk will be? Not too strenuou for the first of the season! Shared mates rates last year, what a good deal.

  3. The walks are excellent, well organised, very sociable, and extremely good value from a transportation – and less toll on the environment. Looking forward to first Big Lemon Walk of the season this Sunday.
