Once again The Big Lemon will be running coaches to Lewes Bonfire. Lewes Bonfire is one of the biggest in the country, there are six societies putting on five separate parades and firework displays on the 5th, and this can mean 3,000 people taking part in the celebrations, and up to 80,000 spectators attending in the small market town with a permanent population of just 16,000.

We have been told that Sussex Police is not allowing The Big Lemon past the road closures this year. Anyone who has travelled before with us will know that we have always previously used the bus stop by the Cuilfail roundabout, and this year we checked with Lewes District Council what the arrangements were and were referred to a map (http://www.lewes.gov.uk/bonfire). The map had a bus stop on it by the Cuilfail roundabout, but it has now been removed from the map and we’ve been told we cannot use it.
We have, of course, protested to Sussex Police, but have not yet received an answer. The initial reason was that it would defeat the object of the road closure if we were allowed through. However we have six coaches going to Lewes – that will not make any impact on the effectiveness of the road closure. What’s worse: we have been told that Brighton & Hove and Compass buses will be allowed through, and given no reason as to why it’s ok for them but not for us.
It looks like what we will have to do is take people as close as we can get, which will be the roundabout where the A26 meets the A27, and passengers will have to walk about 15-20 minutes along the river towards the town centre. If we can take people further we will. On the return, we will have to pick up from the Cliffe Industrial Estate. There will be signage from the town centre to the pick up point at Cliffe Industrial Estate; passengers will also see it on the way in.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this causes and will continue to fight for fair treatment and the best interests of our passengers. We are also offering anyone who wants to reconsider their options a full refund.

All tickets must be booked in advance. Coach tickets are now sold out; if you haven’t booked anything yet your best bet would be Brighton & Hove Buses’ routes 28 & 29

We regret that all tickets are non-refundable. However you are welcome to sell your tickets to others, please just notify of us in the change of names. Please print a copy of your confirmation email to pass on to the new ticket-holder.
